The man who was contracted to kill Trey Gowdy, aka “Gilligan,” was caught by Miami-Dade Transportation Police trying to board a cruise ship to St. Thomas. Reasonably disguised and among thousands of people, Gilligan was doing his best to blend in when an alert young cop saw something that just didn’t seem quite right:
“Well, it’s Miami and it’s summer and you’re getting on a cruise with a Thule ski carrier. Are you delivering those skis to someone in St. Thomas? I told him I had to see what was inside and he said he changed his mind and decided not to bring them. He said he was going to try waterskiing with them, but they’re…not those kind of skis.
You’d think an international criminal would be a little smarter. I told him to stop, he pulled out a detonator.”
Gilligan refused to be taken alive. When he saw that the exits were blocked and he was outgunned about 25 to one, he ran into the nearest bathroom and detonated an explosive that made sure he would never be identified. Authorities are still trying to pick up the pieces, literally. Special Agent Brian Sundergen told LLOD’s Skip Tetheluda:
“Unless his DNA was registered, which is highly unlikely, or he had some kind of surgical implant with a serial number on it we have nothing. We’ve already recovered top and bottom dentures so dental records are out. He had no fingerprints even before this. He had layers of scar tissue from burning them off in a process that takes years.
We will probably never know who he is or howq many people he actually killed.”
A man he was traveling with tried to slip away in all of the commotions and went down in a hail of gunfire in the street nearby. Police are working to identify him but with his lack of features, including fingerprints, the working theory is that this was an apprentice being trained to take over when Gilligan retires. No more. Their reign of terror is over.
